Catalan 3 Peaks Challenge
Summit Catalonia’s most beautiful mountains in one unforgettable week
The Catalan 3 Peaks is an unforgettable week-long adventure linking three of the most spectacular summits in the Catalan Pyrenees — Montsent de Pallars, Besiberri Sud, and the mighty Pica d’Estats, the highest point in Catalonia.
Over seven days you’ll move through some of the wildest and most varied terrain in the Pyrenees: rolling forested valleys, high glacial cirques, sweeping ridgelines, and rugged 3,000-metre peaks with views that stretch all the way into France. Each summit brings a different challenge — and a completely different atmosphere — building towards the final push onto Pica d’Estats.
This is a big-mountain journey with time to breathe: a mix of challenging ascents, remote landscapes, recovery days, and the thrill of standing on three iconic summits alongside a fully certified UIMLA guide.

Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival in Barcelona – Transfer to the Pyrenees
We’ll pick you up at Barcelona Airport and drive you to the stunning Pyrenees region. After the scenic journey, you can unwind and prepare for the adventure ahead in a comfortable hotel.
Day 2
Montsent de Pallars Summit (2,883m)
Distance: 12 km | Ascent: +1,050 m | Descent: -1,050 m | Duration: 6–7 hours
After a short transfer from Tremp, we begin a steady climb through open hillsides and high meadows towards the broad summit dome of Montsent de Pallars.
The route is non-technical with no exposed sections, and rewards us with sweeping views over the Pallars region.
A partial circular route leads us back to the trailhead before returning to Tremp for an evening by the pool and dinner in town.
Day 3
Besiberri Sud Summit (3,023m)
Distance: 10 km | Ascent: +1,150 m | Descent: -1,150 m | Duration: 7–8 hours
A bigger alpine day in the heart of Aigüestortes.
We ascend through glacial terrain to the upper basin before tackling the short scrambling section that leads to the summit ridge of Besiberri Sud.
We may adapt the route depending on group ability and weather, choosing the shorter out-and-back route as our main plan. Then a return to Tremp for a relaxed evening.
Day 4
Active Recovery / Mont-rebei
Distance: 8 km | Ascent: +250 m | Descent: -250 m | Duration: 5 hours
(Or full rest day at the hotel pool — your choice)
A lighter day between big summits.
Choose a scenic half-day hike through the Congost de Mont-rebei gorge, or enjoy a full rest day exploring Tremp and relaxing by the pool.
Day 5
Approach to Refugi Vallferrera
Distance: 4 km | Ascent: +350 m | Descent: 0 m | Duration: 1.5–2 hours
We transfer deep into Vall Ferrera and follow a gentle mountain trail up to Refugi de Vallferrera — our hut base for Pica d’Estats.
A cosy communal dinner under the stars sets the scene for the big summit push.
Day 6
Pica d’Estats Summit(3,143m)
Distance: 17 km | Ascent: +1,300 m | Descent: -1,650 m | Duration: 9–10 hours
An early start for Catalonia’s highest peak. We follow a classic high-valley trail with one short, straightforward ladder section before climbing to the main col.
A steady scree ascent leads us to the summit, with far-reaching views across Spain, France and Andorra.
We descend the same route, return to the minibus, and drive back to Tremp for a well-earned celebration dinner.
Day 7
Return to Barcelona
After breakfast, we’ll drive you back to Barcelona Airport, leaving you with incredible memories from this unforgettable Carros de Foc adventure.
