Carros de Foc

The Ultimate Pyrenean Challenge

Hikers traversing a rocky mountain in Aiguestortes trail with evergreen trees and a clear blue sky.

Carros de Foc, meaning Chariots of Fire, is an iconic trek in the Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park, one of the most breathtaking regions in the Pyrenees. This legendary route connects nine mountain refuges, forming a challenging yet rewarding circuit through rugged peaks, crystal-clear lakes, and remote alpine landscapes.

Originally established in 1987, when a group of hut wardens decided to visit each other’s refuges in a single journey, Carros de Foc has since become one of the most famous multi-day treks in Europe. The challenge includes collecting nine official stamps—one from each refuge—on the Carros de Foc pass, a tradition that symbolizes completing the full circuit.

With 65 km of distance, 5,000m of elevation gain, and the highest point at Coll de Contraix (2,745m), this is a true wilderness adventure, perfect for experienced hikers looking for an unforgettable journey through the heart of the Pyrenees.
